Baby it’s (still!) cold outside!
With a few weeks left of winter, it’s not too late to get into some good cold weather hair care practices. Here are some easy tips:
Tip 1: Wash dry hair less frequently in winter
To avoid dry hair in winter months, avoid frequent hair washing. Natural oils provide a protective layer between the scalp and hair. Go longer between washes – and avoid looking greasy – by using dry shampoo. Dry shampoo smells great and delivers instant volume. ✔️Important Note: Never leave the house with wet hair in winter. The cold is extremely damaging to damp hair – the hair can even break!
Tip 2: Blow dry gently
So, the heat from your hairdryer isn’t good for your hair. Result: Already dry hair is dried out even further. The solution: Apply a heat protection product and blow dry using the diffuser on a low heat setting.
Tip 3: Hang onto your hat
Weve enjoyed some great winter weekends. You know, the ones when friends got together around a fire pit, roasted s’more and drank hot cocoa, maybe even did some sledding or tubing. But exposure to rain, snow and cold is a real stress factor for hair. Wear a hat to minimize exposure to the weather. There are so many stylish and fun options out there!
Tip 4: Moisturize your dry winter hair
Cold weather and dry central heating doesn’t just impact our skin, but our hair too. Use a moisture-restoring shampoo and conditioner during the colder months. Also, add a weekly moisturizing mask to your care routine. A once-a-week intensive treatment will help winter-proof your hair. We recommend MATRIX MOISTURE ME RICH shampoo and conditioner. Tip 5: Treat dry hair with hair oil
Hair oil: An absolute blessing for stressed winter hair. The oil can be applied directly to wet hair after you rinse out your shampoo or, alternatively, after blow drying. The ends of your hair will benefit from this treatment most of all, since they’re roughed up by coats, scarves, and sweaters in winter.
Tip 6: Dismiss flyaway hair
Hair can get super staticky from sweaters, scarves and hats. Counteract this effect by using some heat protection spray when styling, or by moistening your hair with a bit of hair spray. To keep hair smooth despite the humidity, you can also use preventive anti-frizz products – be it a shampoo or a spray for dry hair. ✔️Important Note: Don’t use them all at once, or you’ll weigh the hair down. In this case, less is definitely more. We recommend REDKEN FRIZZ DISMISS shampoo and conditioner. Click below to purchase yours!
Tip 7: Split ends? Trim 'em!
Winter is often toughest of all on the ends of your hair. Get regular trims and those split ends won’t stand a chance – your hair will remain healthy and radiant!
